We are right on the Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire border – so a perfect central location. 40 minutes from St Pancras station to Arlesey station, then a 10 minute drive and you are at the farmhouse. We are close to the A1 and M1, and large towns of Bedford, Cambridge and Milton Keynes are all accessible for exploring and shopping. We have lovely smaller towns and villages that are worth a visit, such as Ampthill, Hitchin and Woburn.
Two-night minimum stay during off-peak times and a three-night minimum during peak times (bank holiday weekends and standard school holiday periods). Check in 3pm. Check out 10am (possibly later, depending on whether we have people checking in).
Check ins are on Monday Wednesday and Friday. Although if you want to check in on another day, we may be able to be flexible, so please get in touch.
Yes, £100 paid when you make your final payment. This is paid by BACs and will be refunded in accordance with our terms and conditions (here) after your stay. If you are bringing a dog or dogs, the damages deposit is £150.
We have a huge, antique dining table in the farmhouse. It can fit 14 people comfortably
Two of the farmhouse bedrooms, the cottage living room and the farmhouse dining rooms have fireplaces, but they are just for show now (the farmhouse and cottage are cosy and heated by our ground source heating). The farmhouse living room has a wood burning stove, and we will leave you some wood/kindling firelighters for your stay during colder months.
There is a beautiful, large, garden with a tennis court. There is also the Polehanger river woodland for walks, in addition to many kilometres of footpaths on the farm and surrounding area.
The Aga is only on at certain times of the year. We will let you know when. Check out our Aga cookbooks in the kitchen for some recipes!
What to do near Polehanger? Loads! We have a very comprehensive Welcome and Information pack in the Farmhouse for you to find things to do. Or e-mail us and we can send you a copy so you can plan things to do before your stay. Check out our blog here.
Our information pack lists lots of local restaurants, pubs and takeaways, so you have lots of choice. If you’re looking for a special meal, consider a private chef, or contact us to ask about restaurants suitable for a very special occasion.
We have two linked properties- the cottage and the farmhouse. They have separate front doors, but can be linked. There are two double bedrooms (king beds) in the cottage, and four double bedrooms (three king, one super king) in the farmhouse. These will sleep 12 people.
We will allow extra children in two of the bedrooms, so please contact us for more information as to what is possible.
All bed linen and towels. Tea towels, washing up liquid, soap, dishwasher tablets, shower gel, hand cream.
We provide all the gear to play tennis, table tennis and croquet. We have badminton racquets and shuttlecocks.
We have a games cupboard and some books you can read during your stay (or feel free to take them away with you if you need to finish it!)
The kitchens for the farmhouse and cottage are both well equipped. There is one dishwasher and two washing machines. There is a washing line outside and an airer above the Aga.
Yes – you can bring two dogs. Our terms and conditions require that they remain downstairs at all times, and they are not allowed on the furniture. We obviously require you to clear up after them, which we know our guests will. We will require a slightly higher damages deposit – of £150 – if you are bringing a dog or dogs.
We have two travel cots you can borrow (we ask you to bring your own sheets) and two highchairs. We have two sets of stairs, but no stair gates.
Yes, all the major supermarkets deliver to us. We ask that the shopping is delivered once you have arrived, as we cannot take delivery for you.
Please check our instructions by the stove.
We can put you in touch with a wonderful private chef, who will come along and create a fantastic meal for you – and they’ll do all the washing up! We also have recommendations for Grazing board companies and a caterer that can offer Afternoon Tea.
Legislation dictates we are not allowed to leave you candles and the use of them by you is forbidden (sorry!) Battery operated ‘candles’ are okay – we know they’re not as nice but they are safer.
Not inside! There are sand buckets for smoking outside. Please see our terms and conditions in respect of breaches of these in terms of smoking. Please dispose of your cigarettes properly.
